Devon was assigned to us on February, 26th,
2001. We were overjoyed. He was such a beautiful baby. Even in that tiny referral picture we received on that day.
We filled out all the paperwork and waited for the INS to do it's thing.
On April 27th, we got word that our visa approval had been sent to Korea. We knew that meant that our wait for him was almost
over. Or...so we thought! Little did we know that trouble was brewing in Korea!
We needed an age waiver for Gerald for us to be able to adopt a baby from
Korea as the cut-off age is 45 (Gerald was 46 at that time). The Ministry of Health and Welfare had granted us a waiver and
we thought we were home-free. Devon was supposed to come home in May. In April, the official who had granted us the waiver
left office and a new one had taken his place. When he saw how old Gerald was and how healthy Devon was, he decided to put
our case under review.
What followed, from May 29th(when we heard this dreadful news) till Devon
finally did come home, was a nightmare of paperwork, intervention by various people and a whole lot of crying and never-ending
prayer.
